Drug Crime.

Conservative & Labour Liberal Democrats
Liberal Democrats would reduce opportunities for crime and tackle the fear of crime. We would:
  • Make local authorities responsible for crime prevention, funded partly from confiscated drug money.
  • Set up a Royal Commission to investigate all possible options to tackle drug abuse.

Facts & Figures.

  • The Heroin trade in the UK is worth over one billion pounds a year.
  • There are 200,000 heroin addicts in Britain.
  • Offenders with heroin habits require an illegal income of between 10-20k a year.
  • Drug related property crime costs 2.5 billion a year.
  • Locking up drug addicts in prisons does not achieve anything except increasing the addiction. A reformed addict is more of an asset to society, than someone who has spent a year in jail and is still an addict on release from jail.
