4 IN 5 LOCAL CHEMISTS SAY PRESCRIPTION CHARGE MEANS PEOPLE DON’T GET MEDICINE THEY NEED.

Liberal Democrats launched ‘A Bitter Pill’, the first comprehensive survey of English chemists that showed that 82% think that increased prescription charges ‘have led to people not getting the medicines they deserve’and 78% ‘support a freeze in NHS prescription charges’.

Liberal Democrat Spokeman on Public Health, Dr Peter Brand MP, who carried out the survey, added:

“Nearly one in four chemists have had to turn away patients because they couldn’t afford to wait to be repaid by the Government. Without immediate action by the Government, more and more chemists will be forced out of business. This will mean longer waiting lists, more pressure on overstretched GPs, and communities deprived of their local chemist.”
